MDZ Rent a Car has been renting cars in Mendoza, Argentina, for more than 20 years. To rent a car you must be 18 or older and bring a valid driver's license, an ID or passport, and a credit card in your name for the security deposit, which is ARS 600,000 (ARS 800,000 for the Chevrolet Spin and VW Amarok) and is released 48 hours after you return the car. Every car includes insurance: if the car is damaged, you never pay more than the security deposit amount. Additional drivers are free.

Requirements to rent a car

To rent a car from MDZ Rent a Car you must be 18 or older and present:

  • A valid driver's license. Foreign licenses are accepted.
  • An ID card, passport or other identity document.
  • A credit card (VISA, Mastercard, Naranja or another) in the main renter's name for the security deposit. Foreign cards are accepted.

You can add as many additional drivers as you need, at no extra cost and with no limit. You can also rent a car to work with Uber or other ride-hailing apps: the requirements are the same, and you must be registered on the app you plan to use. Official information about driver's licenses in Argentina is available from the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV).

Documents and vehicle check at pickup

When you pick up your car from MDZ Rent a Car, bring your valid driver's license, your ID or passport, and the credit card for the security deposit. At handover we inspect the vehicle together: interior, exterior, dashboard, mileage and fuel level, and we sign the rental agreement on the spot. You may take photos or record videos during the inspection, but they are only valid if taken in front of our staff. If we find an item left in the car after you return it, we will let you know and keep it for 30 days so you can collect it or send someone to pick it up. We do not ship items by mail.

Insurance and deductible

Every MDZ Rent a Car vehicle includes insurance. If the car is damaged, you never pay more than the security deposit or deductible amount: ARS 600,000, or ARS 800,000 for the Chevrolet Spin and VW Amarok.

You can add the insurance upgrade, which costs ARS 20,000 per day on every car. With the upgrade, that maximum amount (the deductible and the security deposit) drops to ARS 400,000, or to ARS 600,000 for the Spin and Amarok. It is optional and can be added when you book online or by asking our team.

Security deposit on your credit card

When you pick up the car, MDZ Rent a Car places a hold on your credit card as a security deposit. It is not a charge: the amount is held and then released 48 hours after you return the vehicle. The deposit equals the insurance deductible:

  • ARS 600,000 for most cars.
  • ARS 800,000 for the Chevrolet Spin and VW Amarok.
  • With the insurance upgrade, it drops to ARS 400,000, or ARS 600,000 for the Spin and Amarok.

The card must be in the main renter's name; foreign cards are accepted. Before your trip, make sure it has enough available limit to cover that amount.

Mileage

MDZ Rent a Car rates include 200 km per rental day. The kilometers add up over the whole rental: for example, a 5-day rental includes 1,000 km that you can use however you like during your stay. If your route will be longer, you can add extra 200 km packages, which are also cumulative. Each package costs ARS 20,000 for cars and ARS 30,000 for the Chevrolet Spin and VW Amarok. Packages can be added when you book online or by asking our team.

Driving outside Argentina

With an MDZ Rent a Car vehicle you can travel outside Mendoza and even cross into Chile. To do so, let us know 48 hours in advance so we can process the vehicle's exit permit. The permit costs the equivalent of 1 rental day. All our cars can cross into Chile except the Renault Kwid. More information is on our travel permit page.

The documents Argentine Customs requires to leave the country with a vehicle are listed by ARCA, Argentina's tax and customs agency (in Spanish). The Cristo Redentor international pass can close due to snow or bad weather, so check its official status (in Spanish) before you set off.

Business hours and rental day

MDZ Rent a Car's business hours are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Outside these hours, handovers are self-service at no extra cost: we leave you the car, the keys and instructions. Each rental day equals 24 hours counted from the pickup time shown in your booking: if you pick up the car at 10:00 a.m., each rental day ends at 10:00 a.m. the next day. If you do not show up within two hours of the agreed time and do not let us know about the delay, the booking may be treated as a no-show under the cancellation policy.

Airport delivery and other locations

MDZ Rent a Car delivers and collects cars at Mendoza International Airport, El Plumerillo, about 15 minutes from downtown. With our Meet and Greet service, a representative waits for you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name or the company logo; we inspect the car and sign the agreement right there. If your flight is delayed, we adjust the meeting time at no extra charge. Airport delivery and return have an additional fee, the same at any time of day. There is no extra cost outside business hours: if you land late, we leave the car in the airport car park at 8:00 p.m., and if your flight leaves very early or very late, you leave the car in the car park with the keys, following our instructions. Either way, you only pay the parking fee. You can also pick up the car at our office or have it delivered to and collected from your hotel or another location, with a fee based on distance. Fuel policy

At MDZ Rent a Car, fuel is the renter's responsibility. We deliver each vehicle with a specific fuel level, which is recorded during the inspection we do together at pickup, and you must return it with the same level. You do not need to return the car with a full tank if you did not receive it full: what matters is matching the level at handover. If you plan long drives, such as the High Andes, the Uco Valley or San Rafael, factor fuel consumption into your travel budget.

Traffic fines

If the vehicle receives a fine during the rental and the violation is the driver's responsibility, for example speeding or illegal parking, the renter pays the fine. If the violation is due to an error by MDZ Rent a Car, such as a missing fire extinguisher or out-of-date vehicle documents or insurance, the company pays it. To avoid surprises, respect speed limits and parking rules wherever you drive, both in the city and on the highway.

Cancellations and date changes

At MDZ Rent a Car, a booking is confirmed once the down payment or agreed amount has been received. If you cancel, no money is refunded, but you keep 100% of the amount paid as credit for a future booking. The credit is personal and non-transferable, valid for 12 months from the cancellation date and subject to availability; if the new date has a different rate, you pay the difference. A date change counts as a cancellation and becomes credit under the same terms. If you do not show up within two hours of the agreed time without notice, the booking may be treated as a no-show. If the company has to cancel, it will offer a car of the same or higher category at no cost, or 100% of the payment as credit. Full details in our cancellation policy.

MDZ Rent a Car accepts the following payment methods:

  • Cash and foreign currency (at the "blue" exchange rate).
  • Domestic or international bank transfer (SWIFT).
  • Mercado Pago.
  • Credit and debit cards, including card payments in US dollars through Stripe.
  • Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin and USDT).

If you pay for your booking online by bank transfer or cryptocurrency, send the receipt on WhatsApp to +54 9 261 230-6787 within the time limit shown by the booking system. The security deposit is always held on a credit card in the main renter's name. Ask us about other digital wallets.

Extras and roadside assistance

MDZ Rent a Car offers a universal child seat for children weighing 15 to 25 kg, and you can add a second seat if you need one (more on our car seat rental page). We also rent snow chains, useful for driving to the High Andes in winter. During your rental you have mechanical assistance and towing service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Extras can be added when you book online or by requesting them on WhatsApp.
